DAY
7
Morning
John Askew returned
to #23 West and saw several more bucks and does. A bomber 10-point skirted
the area to look it over, and remained in the area 15 minutes, but he never
came by John.
Rick Philippi saw
4 nice 8-point bucks but held out, hoping to see one of the bombers he
has heard about. Brooks Johnson and Keith Beam saw deer but
took no shots. Tony Dukes videoed for Brooks. Joe Hajek returned
home this morning.
Mike Ditchler saw
wild hogs, deer and some black bucks. His friend Chris got a shot
at a wild hog but missed. Roy Keefer arrived last evening and he
also saw deer and hogs this morning.
Afternoon
John Askew saw several
deer but not the 10-point.
Rick Philippi saw
does, bucks, rams and wild hogs at #16. At last light he noticed a black
hog with a white markings walking through the trees behind the treestand.
Rick just got a new bow from High Country that shot 330+ through a chronograph
and the company sent him 55 grain broadheads for it. He wanted to see how
they would do and the hog looked like a good test subject.
Rick aimed and released.
The hog ran to the west and Rick heard a crash. When Billy Don arrived
he, Rick, Keith Beam followed the generous blood trail 80 yards to the
hog.

hog.
Although they saw game Keith
Beam, Brooks Johnson did not take any shots. Mike Ditchler
went out at 1:00 in the afternoon and sat until dark. He had a "monster
buck" in his area between 2:00 and 2:30. There were no shot opportunities.
Chris
saw deer and rams, but not the wild hogs he came to hunt.
Roy Keefer
saw a huge racked 10-point and videoed it. The big buck never came in bow
range but Roy's video of it really wowed us back at camp that evening.
Rick and John had to return
home and the rest of us ate the Duck's bear can grilled chickens. There
was nothing left but the bones. |
