It's Dave's Day

Dave Cole is the owner of BowFit archery exerciser and the creator of the ArcheryFit archery exercise video. 

Bill Don dropped Dave Cole off and does quickly came into the area, it was still too light to see them clearly. After daylight Dave saw 2 8-points and a forky. Dave looked for an opportunity to shoot one of the 8-points but they moved away too soon. When they returned Dave was ready to shoot.

To his left he heard a deer coming through the rocks in the creek bottom. Dave looked and saw the horns of a bigger buck. He imediately changed his plans.

Dave waited as the buck got closer. At 18 yards he was quartering away and Dave shot, "I could tell I hit him good." The buck bolted away on a dead run and went out of sight. Dave checked his watch, it was 7:40am.

At 8:30 he checked for blood and found a good trail. It led 50 yards to a fence. Dave was unsure if he could cross the fence so he waited from Billy Don.

When Billy Don arrived they walked to the fence and climbed over it. Billy Don said, "He took a left turn here," and looked down the blood trail with his binoculars.

Fifty yards away a rack was sticking up out of the prairie grass and cactus.

They took pictures.

Dave said, "It was pretty exciting, in Idaho where I live we don't have whitetails. This buck was better than my expectations, I didn't think I would take a buck this big. I've shot a few other but nothing like this. Billy Don has a great hunting operation here at Wild Horse Prairie Ranch in Burnet, Texas -- lots of deer and hogs and exotics on his 10,000 acre ranch. This hunt was a blast, and it isn't over yet."
