Wade Nolan's Writers Camp And Whitetail Bowhunt!

Robert Hoague - Second Hunt

Wade Nolan, Chip and I arrived at my Double Bull blind at 3:30 in the afternoon. According to the other hunters in our group the deer activity during the afternoon hunts was less much less than the morning hunt. But we were there in case the deer came by.

This is Wade Nolan (L) and our guide Chip (R). They are on the watch for deer.

Nothing happened until a little after 5:00 when we saw a few does by the pond. They left on a trail that took them behind us. Then a few bucks came through. Here are a couple of interesting ones.

I made a photo gallery of the highlights of the bucks that we saw this afternoon.. Note that one picture is of a young that has a Yellow ear tag, This is a breeder buck. He is the product of Bar None's successful breeding program and is not to be harvested. GO...

The bucks were particularly interested in the areas Mark had placed the 24 Seven. In the pictures you can see they worked the branches and smelled the area near Mark's scrape and along the scent trail.

Suddenly, what deer were in the area looked into the woods to the right of our blind. They went on alert and watched something we couldn't see.

Eight Javelinas walked into view from behind the blind. One of them was a bad attitude boy and repeatedly nipped and snapped at the others in the group. The deer didn't like it and they cleared out. Wade was already videoing.

The bad attitude javelina darted away from the group and stopped where I had a clear 10 yard shot. I  took a quick picture (below) and picked up the Bear bow Scot Alread had given me for this hunt.

My arrow hit the javelina knocked the javelina down and it ran behind the blind. The others followed.

While we waited we saw more deer. Neither the 8-point or the High Rack buck showed up this afternoon but I took more pictures of deer and got some super pics of bucks.

As the sun dangled above the distant trees on the horizon we got out of the blind to recover the javelina. Wade picked up blood where the javelina had turned west and ran into the brush. He stayed on the trail and Chip and I walked ahead to see if we could see it. Chip called out, "Here it is."  And so it was.

My South Texas Javelina boar taken with the deadly Grim Reaper Razor Tip broadhead on the business end of a Gold Tip Ultralight 400 shot out of a 60 pound Fred Bear MQ32.compound from Bear Archery.
