Jay Liechty - The Grim Reaper

At daybreak ranch guide Derrick drove Jay and Joe Byers went to a an ASAT camo ground blind. Once it was daylight they saw several deer immediately. The two hunters had agreed that Joe could have the first shot opportunity and Joe made a perfect shot on a swell buck. 

Jay waited and watched several bucks. A heavy beamed 8-point came in. Jay kneeled and waited for a shot opportunity. But Derrick bumped one of the chairs inside the blind and it spooked the buck.

Soon there were over 20 deer around and 8 different 8-points. A bomber 10 point walked around the perimeter but didn't get in range. The heavy 8-point appeared on the right and walked in front of the blind ... and stopped broadside.

The buck's leg was back and Jay didn't like the shot. He waited briefly and then drew just before the buck shifted his weight and the leg moved forward. This was the shot Jay was looking for. 

The arrow zipped through the buck heart and he jumped straight into the air and ran all out for 30 yards and stopped for an instant ... and fell over. 

Derrick phoned camp and Mark picked me up and we drove to Jay and I took pictures.

Here is veteran elk bowhunter Jay Liechty with his first Texas whitetail buck. Jay is the inventor and President of Grim Reaper Broadheads. The buck fell to the original Grim Reaper Razor Tip broadhead with an 1 3/8" cut.
