About Venado Loco's Great West Texas Bowhunt

The name Venado is the Mexican word for deer and Loco is crazy which pretty much defines Venado Loco's passion for deer hunting!

One of the unique things about this hunt was the buck to doe ratio. I'm used to ones like 8 to 1, with 8 bieng the does. Here the ratio was 2.5 does to every buck. We saw a lot of bucks!!

For several years Venado has held an annual "by invitation" bowhunt, inviting a few friends for a one week hunt. When he discovered the Internet's deerhunting community in the Buck chat and via email he became friends with deer hunters from around the USA. He decided to invite his new found Internet deerhunting cronies, who he had never met, to attend his annual bowhunt.

The last three years folks have been invited from Michigan, New Hampshire, Connecticut and Florida, as well as Texas.
He told me that this hunt would be unique because of the country and he was right. The terrain is jam packed with a variety of brush and cactus. Everything has stickers. Because everything grows close to the ground you can see a long ways.

You can see for miles.
Venado told me that the guests are always amazed by the amount and variety of animals that they see. This rugged, arid country is the home of Javelina, Whitetail, Ringtail, Blue Quail, Bob White Quail, Roadrunners and Mexican Ground Squirrels.
Javelina
I was surprised that I hadn't seen and Coyotes and told him so, after all this is a working sheep ranch and sheep are what Coyotes love to kill and eat. He explained that the Ranch owner had been on a 40 year eradication plan put on by paid County Trappers, there simply are no coyotes there.

Venado Loco: We became acquainted through his web site. I received an email from him that had his sites link on it. I was thoroughly impressed by the site so I emailed him and invited him to add his site to the Bowhunting.Net Residents Area of personal web sites. Happily he accepted and uploaded his site, Venado Loco's Deer Hunting In Texas & Mexico.

We had a few more email exchanges and one day I opened one and found that myself and a friend of my choice was invited to his annual bowhunt. So the Duck and I headed out for West Texas.

Venado Loco's Deer Hunting In Texas & Mexico: Venado enjoyed visiting his new Internet acquaintances personal web sites and he decided to make one of his own. When you meet Venado one of the things you immediately figure out is that he is very well organized and through. But, after all, he is a retired Engineer, CEO and Corporation President so he should have good organizational and planning skills.

He planned his web site carefully and created a site to inform people about deer hunting in the South Western edge of the Whitetail in West Texas and Mexico. The site is a pure pleasure. It has his personal pictures of deer and other critters from the area and loads of useful info on deer hunting. Venado Loco's Deer Hunting In Texas & Mexico. Don't miss it.

Thanks Venado, we had a swell time.
