DAY #2, Venado
Loco Deerhunt
Our groups total deer sightings today:
64 Deer, 29 were bucks.
Sunday morning I went into Del Rio. Everything except Wal Mart was closed.
But I managed to find the cable I needed to get my cellular transmission
back on track.
The other bowhunters are two bowhunters from Michigan, Tracker and Dennis
Frantz, and GeneInNC from North Carolina. And, of course, Venado Loco himself,
Paul Abat.

Afternoon Hunt
Day #2 started off just like the "doe day" yesterday, but it was going
to be a buck day, I just didn't know it yet. A doe with a fawn came through
first. Two more does followed later on As the sun was dropping into
the horizon this doe was was walking down a nearby trail, it stooped and
kept looking to the left. Soon she passed by me and I started glassing
the brush in the direction she was looking.
I saw movement and focused on it through the low hanging branches of a
mesquite tree... and picked up the tines of a buck. The doe was now 40
yards to my left and the buck walked up to her and checked her out. Then
he walked on by her.
I spotted the buck several times as he changed positions. Daylight faded
and a different buck came out of the brush uphill from me. It had short
times and I noticed (through my binoculars) that one tine was broken. The
buck walked by me at 15 yards and disappeared into the brush.
At near dark an 8-point looked down from the hill above. Everybody
at camp wanted this picture for wallpaper, so here it is in 800x600
and 640x480.
