Day 3
(Morning Hunt)
We were in the Pecan Draw stand well before daylight this morning. It was
in the 20's and gusty so there was plenty of cold air circulating. One
hour after sunrise Jim Autrey pointed to our left, signaling me that deer
were over there. I couldn't see for all the limbs in the way, but after
a while I spotted 4 does browsing on the hillside beside us. They were
the start of the 12 deer that we saw this morning. But none came into the
draw where we were.
(Afternoon
Hunt) We were on the stand mid afternoon at 3:00. After the sun
dropped into the tops of the trees several does showed up in the brush
and mesquite trees on the hill in front of us. Two of them browsed slowly
toward us and it looked like the others would follow. They were taking
forever but finally one was a few steps from being in range. Jim spoke,
"We are out of light for the camera." (if you have videoed you know that
the light for the camera gives out before the real shooting light does.)
We gathered our stuff and walked to Jim's truck. Oran Hill met us at the
camp house.
We discussed the
day's hunt and he suggested we return, which definitely sounds like a good
idea.
