BOWHUNT: Antelope In Wyoming
Sept 8, 2000 - Day
#1
(11:03am)
JimboTX and the other 5 guys went out to their blind selections this morning
and Ande Rushing and I went to the Spring Valley area where we set up yesterday.
Here's a picture from inside my blind, looking out of two of the shooting
windows at the spring water 15 yards downhill.
I'm overlooking a pool of
water fed by a spring.
Today I saw about 30 antelope
early but they were all high up on the ridges and weren't headed my way.
I don't know what the wind speed is but it is sure blowing strong and gusting
with stronger. To tell the truth I would not have been surprised to see
my blind flapping in the breeze when I got here. But it was hanging tough.
Double Bull makes it so you can stake it at ground level on the four sides.
Then they have 4 cords that are attached to the frame and they stake 3
feet out the blind. It makes it more solid than I thought would be possible.
(8:00pm) In the afternoon
I saw several mule deer does in the reeds close by. (Here's
a couple.) No antelope came to my water. An hour before dark I walked
the draw and found another spring with 10 inches of water. No wonder they
aren't visiting my puddle. I'll dig in there tomorrow.
Ande Rushing was 600 yards
from me and he had a great day. Three different bucks came in and lots
of does. He videoed the bucks and one was plenty good. He passed on the
bucks. Everyone else saw some antelope but no one harvested one. We ate
supper, talked about the antelope and the wind and now it's time to call
it a day. I don't know about everyone else, but I'm beat. I need a good
nights sleep.
