DAY 3 - Out source
Back At The River Ridge:
I
could
I had to take my wife Debbie's
aunt to the DFW airport. So I got up early enough to, but didn't turkey
hunt.
Yesterday, my friend Dickie
Wicker invited me to hunt turkeys on his farm. He has been seeing 4 big
longbeards regularly and to be sure I would hunt the right place he drove
me to the edge of a canyon. I arrived there at 2:45 and set up one of the
original Double Bull blinds with 8 shooting windows. I put the blind in
the shade of a big oak tree, the only tree around.
and added the Hazel Creek
taxidermied jake to the mix.
Those 4 gobblers ignored
my calls. Either that, or they just couldn't hear me because of the relentless
wind. No other turkeys showed up either.
But 3 deer walked out of
the canyon and looked my area over from higher up the hill. Here's two
of them.
It's never an afternoon
wasted when you are in deer and wild turkey country. Life is good.
