Turkey Hunting With Billy Don
I am bowhunting at Billy Don's Wild Horse Prairie Ranch in Burnet, Texas. 

Apr 26 - When he answered the phone
I said, "Hello Billy Don!" He answered "Hello Robert." I told him the turkey hunting was tough up here. He said to come on down. This afternoon I'll be at Wild Horse Prairie Ranch hunting with Billy Don.

I arrived at Billy Don's Wild Horse Prairie Ranch at 3:00 in the afternoon. Russell Carpenter met me and took me to the stand whaer I took lots of wild turkey pictures on past hunts here. I set up a 3 way decoy setup, using the Hazel Creek jake, the Renzo's strutting jake and a buckwing hen. that I laid on the ground.
I wanted to create the ruse that the hen was ready for breading and two jakes were on the scene. I figured it would drive the gobblers nuts.

Thing's turned out different than my plan. One hen came through and carefully skirted the scenerio. 

Russell picked me up a while before dark, we wanted to drive around and listen for gobbles. Later than you normally see a wild turkey I saw one and glassed it. What a thick and long beard this gobbler had !!!  I followed along behind it and saw the clump of trees that it roosted in. Tomorrow morning I can set up on a nearby hill and should see him at fly down.
