Equipment Evaluations
by Tony Dukes

Osceola Rio Grande Merriam's
Testing equipment can be both a blessing and a burden. Equipment on the 4x4 Grand Slammer was a blessing. These products & Outfitters have my trust and blessings and their companies my thanks for their support of the greatest sport in the greatest country.

Wulff Cedar Creek Ranch
Wulff Cedar Creek Ranch arguably, has more turkey and beautiful, easy to cover country than any ranch in Texas. The geographic center of Texas in marked on the ranch, amidst a myriad of bluebonnets with a lodge like the Hyatt and better food from Dean and Todd. This is the best, most affordable Rio Grande turkey hunt period, Contact them or me at TDHUNT@aol.com to get in on next years hunt.

Double K Guide Service
Dave Keiser of Double K Guide Service in in South  Dakota is "the MAN" when it comes to Merriams. Nothing more to say, he is the best, most experienced archery guide for Merriams there is and a great, fun guy to hunt with.

BowTech
When better bows are built BOWTECH will build them. Pretty sure of it for the fact everytime I get a new one it is better. I was in fear of losing forgiveness and stability when I opted for the 33" AMO Liberty VFT. Couldn't have been more wrong. My groups were every bit as good if not better than the 30 and 40 inch bows I'd always shot. The 7 1/2 riser may be the secret to this. The main thing is that I was able to shoot and make shots previously impossible. Period! Can't wait to take to the trees with this sweet bow. In three words, 'I loved it."

EASTON Archery
You’ve got to have good arrows to complete the mission. Performance or accuracy was never in question with the Easton ACC's. You can feel the quality.

Barrie Archery (Rocky Mountain Broadheads)
First thing to the animal or target is the broadhead. I have to admit I have never been a proponent of expandable broadheads. Anyone that thought as I did would be a changed bow owner if they'd witness the accuracy and devastation of the Rocky Mountain ‘Assassins’. Every turkey fell within inches of where it was struck. Not one lost or crippled bird. You cannot beat this folks. Dave Keiser, guide and outfitter on my Merriam hunt asked if I was using a ‘trick head’. Hopefully you will see the video on either Double Bull's upcoming video or my pal, Ted Nugent's TV show.

Timberline Archery
Simple and rugged, how nice to have both in a sight. After 6 weeks of rugged travel and use in 6 states my Timberline bowsight was right on and extremely visible. It is easy to set up, sight in and locks down positive. Enough said.

Double Bull Blinds
I've hunted turkey for over 20 years and only taken a few until Double Bull blinds came out. They have single handedly changed turkey hunting for archers. I love their product, their staff, their videos and their sense of humor and adventure. We should all be glad they are part of our wonderful sport. Thank you Double Bull people!

La Crossse Boots
Snakes and creeks are a nightmare if you don't have good boots. LaCrosse's new FANG, high topped boots kept me safe and comfortable as milk from both. I have trusted LaCrosse for over 30 years. Why because they are trustworthy and American. Think these may become my favorite most secure boot ever. Thanks Kristen.

EASY-EYE Arrow Wraps
As if turkey and turkey vitals aren't hard enough to see, try to get a fix on where your arrow goes when it is launched after the turkey. What used to be impossible is now one of easy and fun. I got into archery to watch the beautiful, mystical flight of the arrow and nothing makes it happen like EZE EYE Crests. Nick furnished all with them on our hunt. Videos would nearly be pointless without them, misses easily corrected, lost arrows found, and to repeat myself. I get to watch the flight of my arrow which is the sweet desert of bowhunting for me. Since their inception, I have never gone a hunt without them on my arrows and never will.

MyTopo.com
If you don't know where you are going its time wasted trying to find the best location to hunt. Anyone who hunts new or unfamiliar terrain really needs to use a topographical map. And if you hunt familiar land I would bet you can get better information on this terrain as well. Check out the maps at bowhunting.MapCard.com.

Pro-Ears
I use hearing protection when shooting firearms but never really thought about using them for hunting. Well Pro Ears, electronic hearing protection/amplification systems changed all that. These high tech units have electronics in both cups, are easy to adjust and super comfortable. But the main thing is their uncanny ability to pick up sounds you could never hear without them. Hearing what is happening before you see it  gave me  the advantage and when you are dealing with wary game animals from whitetails to wild turkeys you need every advantage you can get. I won’t be with out my Pro Ears again.

Florida Wildlife Unlimited
Don't whether I got a bigger kick out of hunting the palmettos and citrus groves of Florida or the outfitter, Ken Mays. Both added lots of color and experiences this veteran hunter had been without and missing. One ride in Ken's pickup and I was sure I was going to leave with the most elusive turkey of all, the Osceola. This is a great experience, with a high chance of success because of this successful outfitter. (They were 100% for this Spring's turkey season.)

Possum's Trading Post Outfitters
With a name like Possum and a lodge nicer than the Hilton you gotta expect it to be good and it always is. Lots of game, food is exquisite and Possum is one of the critters of the Missouri hills. Never heard a guide sound like so many turkeys at once. The only bad thing about hunting with the Anders family and game rich N. E. Missouri is that you can't stay forever. I will be back. A special atmosphere.

Sticks N' Limbs Camouflage
You never see me in a photo without Sticks and Limbs camo, because I wouldn't go hunting without it. That sez it all from this bowhunter.

Knight & Hale
Got lots of gobbles from the purrs and yelps from the Knight and Hale Long Spur box call. The neat thing is it can be heard extremely long distances, but its clear tone doesn't spook a close bird.
