4x4 Grand Slammer

Field Test Results for the Grand Slammer

Knight & Hale Turkey Calls
We used diaphragms, slates and box calls from Knight & Hale. The Glass Queen, in particular, served me well hunting Rio's that had quit coming to calls, this call brought 3 gobblers in just before the end of the season.
The "Screaming Hen" is one of my favorite diaphragm calls, it has perfect pitch and is easy to use. The Long Spur box call reached out there a "long" way and got gobblers gobbling in response on several hunts.
Double Bull Archery - Blinds
This is the single most important item in our hunts for the grand slam. The blind sets up in seconds and turkey's are not spooked by it. You do not have to hide it or brush it in.
It works as well in an open field as it does in the shadows of the woods. It's tight, no wind flap, and that is critical. With 8 shooting windows and 4 netted windows to keep track of the birds this is a wild turkey hunting machine.
To cut to the chase, we would not have the number of gobblers that we took on this hunt without the Double Bull Blinds. It is a must.
Montana Decoy
Several gobblers were lured in by Montana Decoy's strutting Tom. It looks so realistic it had me doing double takes every time I used it. For me, it pulled in big longbeards better than it did jakes. Hens sometimes ran a long ways to it and it's always a good thing to have hens around you to get a gobblers attention.
Tony Dukes (in photo) had the breeding and strutting Montana Decoys out and lured in his Rio in Texas.
In Florida Doug Crabtree had two Osceola Tom's spot the decoys and break into a run, their thick beards swinging. They stopped 2 feet from the Montana Strutting Tom Decoy, nose to nose, just in time to catch Doug's arrow.
Doug phoned me immediately on his cell phone, he was pumped and said, "I've never seen a gobbler react like that to a decoy!"
BowTech Bows
Fast, accurate, easy to set up and tough, come to mind immediately. Our BowTech bows did their job for us on this hunt.
I had a Liberty and at 60 pounds, with a heavy arrow, it chronographed 247. Doug Crabtree set his Pro 40 at 70 pounds and clocked 301 with Easton Axis carbon arrows.
We transported the bows on airplanes, in our trucks and through turkey haunts from Florida to South Dakota. BowTech bows are built tough. Also, I didn't have any string stretch, and to my knowledge no one else did either, so the strings BowTech uses are top quality. BowTech has a reputation for making excellent bows and they do.
