The internet connection situation here is shaky but I found a connection again today.

We are deer hunting out of Clendening Lake Marina near Freeport, Ohio. For lodging and information contact Robb or Annette at 740-658-3691.

I got off my travel plan and arrived mid afternoon instead of early morning or the night before the first day of the hunt. So when I got there both Brian and Brandon already had their bucks on the game pole.

It was drizzling rain when I arrived. In short order that turned into real rain. We waited until later in the afternoon and then decided to forego the day's hunt because the rain would decimate any blood trails. Instead we drove to James Coffelt's farm.

The writers are the famous outdoor writer Mike Bleach, Brent Henderson, Floyd Jeffcoat and myself. Mike Jordan is here representing ATSKO, the makers of Sport-Wash, U-V Killer, N-O-Dor and Sno Seal. Wade is representing FallGuy treestand safety systems. We all met James Coffelt and he told us about his QDMA deer management strategy. He maintains food plots, antler restrictions of 130 minimum and a high doe harvest policy.

James Coffelt discusses his QDMA deer management program with Mike Bleach, Floyd Jeffcoat, MIke Jackson, Robert Hoague and Brent Henderson.

James asked us if we wanted to see some of the bucks that were on his property this year. We were, of course, eager to see them. He has them on his computer and started scrolling through them.

James has a touch screen system and he scrolled through several dozen pictures of the local deer. He uses Cuddyback game cameras and the pics had good detail and the color was better than most that I have used.

Our eyes were bugging out on several of the big mature bucks in the area. like the "PIg" buck with a huge neck and a monster wide buck.

Above is a picture of James with the wide buck we saw in his game camera pictures. He hunted for this buck specifically and arrowed him in October.

Width is a characteristic of the bucks in this area, as demonstrated by the two bucks hanging on the wall that I took pictures of. One has big time width, the other has above average width and very long tines.

Needless to say, we are eager to our first hunts on James's farm.
