Hunt Report November 28

The Point -- Darkness changed to daylight and I waited quietly for something to happen, deer wise. It did.

This morning I was prepared to video from the stand. The stand is in a group of about 20 trees adjacent to a fence and a two track road. Movement along the fence got my eye. An 8-point walked past me, north to south, just on the other side of the fence that is 11 yards away. I wasn't sure I was on it or not with the video. Abruptly, it turned tail and walked back and I zoomed closer and followed the buck. It turned again and walked by me and jumped the fence and walked right into a shooting lane.

But I wasn't shooting right now. The BowTech Guardian was hung on a tree step within easy reach of my right hand. It was going to stay on guard and wait for another buck.

The 8-point turned west, still within 20 yards of my tree and walked through another shooting window. Then it cut behind the clump of trees I was in and I lost sight of it.

Half and hour later a different buck, another 8-point walked down the fence just like the other buck had. It ducked under the fence and walked to my left and stood -- looking back the way it came. I zoomed in tight with the video.

The buck was nervous about something and after a minute of jittery actions it started to leave. I noticed its tail was not up. Woops! The video camera was not on Record. Rats.

Woooohhhh. I saw a big rack through the leaves. Close. Already only 25 yards down the fence, not running but at a fast pace, and almost to me. And past me an instant later. Too fast for a shot. And too fast to count points, but there were more than 8.

The 8-point stopped near some trees about 50 yards away and I hit Record and zoomed in. It moved away and the bigger racked buck came into the video frame. No doubt about it, he was putting pressure on the other buck. (You can see the video of this hunt in BowTube. GO...)

At 9:00 I climbed down and drove to the Hammer Hole, got a Double Bull blind and took it to the Point. Then I wrestled it into a short cedar tree that I had a large platform stand -- that is only 5 feet off the ground. It took some tying and limb trimming to get it in the tree but when I was done I was set up where I can see deer before they are on top of me.

Before leaving I made a short video of the Point and explained the lay of the land and my hunting setup for it, including the new Double Bull in the sky. I'll give it a rest today but I'll be back real soon. I want to get a good look at that big rack again and just maybe I can get him to do the BowTech Boogie with me.

AFTERNOON
I got tied up with business stuff and since it is the closest stand I went to the food plot blind. When I nocked an arrow I noticed that a doe was coming into the plot. It browsed around and another doe joined it. Before long a spike buck approached them and the does left. When they were about 100 yards away he put the pedal to the metal in their direction.
