Bowhunt For Deer
2007 Deerhunt HOME PAGE } October Writers Camp Hunt | Billy Don Hunt | Sponsors | Back Home Hunt Report November 19 - 25 I arrived home on Monday (Nov 19), a day later than expected. I was kinda tired and decided a half hour nap was a good idea. (No kidding, way back in college I learned I could take a short nap and feel rested and more alert, and have done it all my life.) But this time the short turned into long and when I woke up it was dark. Tuesday I did some stuff to help Debbie get ready for Thanksgiving Dinner at our home on Thursday. I managed to hunt Tuesday afternoon at the Food Plot ground blind and saw a doe with a button buck. My friend John Askew arrived earlier and he hunted the woods at the Rock Ledge near the edge of a big field. He saw a doe and a button buck. Wednesday morning John hunted a tripod stand he has at the 2nd Pond and I hunted the ledge above the river. I zipped. But John shot a big wild boar. That afternoon I worked and John went to the Hammer Hole and hunted. We both saw the same number of deer, none. John's wife Linda arrived late afternoon and she and Debbie did Thanksgiving get ready, lady type stuff. Thanksgiving was very nice. We had a couple dozen guests and everybody ate plenty. John got in an afternoon hunt. On the way out he saw some wild hogs and stopped and put a successful stalk on them. When he got a shot the arrow hit something and deflected off target. The hogs took off. During the day the temperature had dropped into the 30's. Friday the temperature was just above freezing, the wind was 25mph and drizzly, quite a frosty day. I put up a Double Bull 100 yards from a treestand I call the Rolled Wire stand and hunted it. We'll call this one the Rolled Wire Annex. I didn't see anything. Before I left I put out a Bushnel digital game camera. Saturday I got up at 5:00 and got ready. When I opened the front door to leave I was greeted by Mr. Rain. And his friend Mr Wind. I waited to see how it played out and checked the weather several times. The rain seemed worse every time I stuck my head outside. At 6:30 it was going strong and I got back under the covers. Sunday I got up at 5:00 and looked out the front door. It was cold and misty but ok otherwise. While I dried off after my shower I noticed the sound of rain outside. Rats, a replay of yesterday morning. After we ate breakfast in town John returned home. I hunted in the food plot blind and saw a big doe with a yearling doe and button buck. BUT... while the deerhunting was not so great the digital game camera, buck locating operation was doing just fine at the food plot and the Rolled Wire Annex. I'm working on the pictures and will have it all up after this mornings hunt at the Rolled Wire Annex. And Here They Are... |
