Game Camera & Hunt Report November 19 - 25

When I got home from Ohio I was eager to see the game camera pictures at the Scrape Watch. Boy was I disappointed. No pictures. And still don't know why. I ran through the Menu and re-did the settings and put the rig at the food plot. When I went back for pics it had some. Go figure.

Busy With The Rut

NOV 21: FIRST PICS - Wide-8 the 10-point
The camera, a Bushnell digital infra red unit, went back out on November 21. The next morning, Nov 22, I downloaded the pictures from the disk. There were 5 different bucks and several does in the pics. AND ... a familiar shaped rack. The Wide-8 buck from last year. But this year he has 10 points and a kicker. Here are the pics.

NOV 23 PICS: Busy With The Rut
You can tell the rut is on by these pics. The weather is cold and either sleeting or raining depending on which side of the freezing mark it is at the moment. Among others, the Wide-8 buck makes another appearance. Here are the pics.

Nov 24 -- Another Familiar Buck ... TK
As daylight was on the down side -- and I was hunting somewhere else -- the Triple Kicker buck bopped up in front of the camera at the food plot. Here are the TK Pics.

Rolled Wire Annex
Wanting to check out more areas I bought another Bushnell digital infra red game camera from Wal-Mart. After loading the batteries and running through the menu I took it to watch an area where I've had sightings of rut activity. It's a couple hundred yards from an area I hunt sparingly, the Rolled Wire. So we'll call this place the Rolled Wire Annex. The camera's first night out was a miserable one, cold and sleeting. But it caught action and located another impressive buck. Here are the Pics.

So Now We Know ... 

Wide-8 is back. So is Triple Kicker. The game camera pictures show that the number of solo does is declining and does are getting back in their small family groups. So a lot of does have been bred. The peak rut period is gonna un-peak quick. 

But the bucks will still be looking for does that didn't get bred and the early born fawn does that become mature enough to mate in December. It's gonna be interesting.

The Plan ... For The Next Week
My plan at this point is to concentrate on the Rolled Wire Annex for a few days. It was going great in the early morning while I was gone and I want to get close enough to the buck a couple of people are telling me about that I can get its picture ... and maybe introduce it to archery.

In the Afternoon I want to hop from one spot to the next. For instance, the Point has always been good for big bucks, and I can shoot a doe or a wild hog or a wild turkey gobbler there too. And I'm ready to put some meat on the game pole. (But I won't shoot anything but a buck at the Last Barn or Rolled Wire Annex. I don't want to disrupt this area by walking around and tracking in it.) 

Then there are other places to drop in on: 

1. the Slew Hole where Robbie Cramer saw a bomber buck, 
2. the ridge above the river has always been good for December bucks that are wandering,
3. the December Tree area
4. and I might just check out a good area that I haven't hunted in a few years, the Pocket.
