The Search for Wide-8

Fast Forward to December 7 when Wide-8+2+K finally found me.

At 8:50am I turned my video camera on and began videoing two groups of does that were walking into the food plot. I videoed for several minutes from inside my blind.

Intent on the does in the video screen, I did not see the Wide-8 buck coming. The does got nervous and started to run and I looked to see what was up. Wide-8 was up. I yanked the video camera to get on him. The does were headed down the trail to somewhere else and Wide-8 stopped a few yards away and looked around. I punched the Take-A-Picture button on the video camera.

I let the video camera do it's thing and got filled my left hand with BowTech. Yikes, the buck was not in the video view screen. I looked up.

Wide-8+2+K was standing to the left, about 15 yards away.

Three thoughts attached my webmaster deerhunter brain at once. (1) Get a picture. (2) Get video. (2) Forget all that and get the BowTech back to full draw and tip this buck over.

I could not resist it, I got the video camera over on him and punched video record. take-a-picture buttons. He moved even closer and I did the take-a-picture button thing again.

I left the video on him and leaned to the left of the shooting window and quietly came to full draw. And went back in the shooting window. The buck had walked off screen ... and out of my shooting area.

Oh my. Years ago my grandmother told me, "don't cry over spilled milk." The buck was there and I took its picture and videoed it too. Sure, I could have, and sometimes do, junk the picture taking or video and shoot instead. But I did what I did. What a wonderful day in the deer woods. It still gives me a heck of a rush when I look at that video of Wide-8 a' la 2007.

So, maybe you would like to see the video too. Wide-8+2+K Video...
