Bryant & Jensen - The iPhone Buck

We drove to Hamilton and ordered Storm's specials, triple meat hamburgers and the best fries in the state. Afterward we did feel better.

Back at the Pond stand we checked for the arrow again. Bryant saw a nock sticking out of some stuff under a cedar tree. There was blood on the feathers and nock. Seeing this removed any uncertainty I had about the hit. The buck was dead, we just had to find him. The problem was the high weeds, tall broom weeds, gobs of clumps of scrub and cedar trees -- there were a lot of places the deer could be.

Back to looking. But still no luck. So we went wider. And wider. At 4:00 I had been south and east all the way to the river and worked my way back to the last blood. Bryant was coming back there too. He had looked hard. His expression said what he thought, that it looked hopeless. Jensen walked up in a few minutes. 

"Anything?" Bryant asked. "No," Jensen replied.

Earlier, Jensen had walked to the north, continuing in the direction the buck had been traveling, but past where we had looked. Eventually Jensen came out on the woods road to the Point and started up the road. A well traveled deer trail through tall grass caught his eye. He took a few steps and saw dried blood spot on some crushed weeds in the trail.

A few steps took him into the woods. Up ahead, in the dried grass by the trail ... antlers were sticking up. He'd found Bryant's buck. Jensen has an iPhone and took the buck's picture, but not before placing a piece of our pink tracking flagging on it.

Then he walked to the Pond area and found us. When we asked if he had found anything he said he had not.

And handed Bryant his iPhone with a big picture of his buck!

It was picture time.

We field dressed the buck and drove him to Whaley's Deer Processing in Hamilton and Bryant ordered the cuts of meat and had it skinned for a head mount.
