The morning hunt was at the Point and nothing happened.
Robbie Cramer and I set up a Matrix ground blind at a fence corner where 3 sides are woods and one is an open field for cattle grazing as well as planting oats and wheat. Right now it has neither. In past years the area has always had good deer traffic, both does and bucks. When we set up the Matrix we drove my truck to within 50 yards of where we wanted the blind to be. Today I parked 400 yards away by some big farm machinery and walked to the blind. It was tough going. Our frequent spring rains and the lack of cattle grazing in this section caused the place to be over run with tall, stalky weeds and wide, fanned out broom weeds. It was tough walking through
this thick jungle of trash weeds. I got in the blind and waited to see
if deer were still around.
After it got dark and I was pretty certain no deer were around I gathered up my stuff and started off toward my truck. It was an overcast and visibility was crummy. The thick weeds was more crummy. It was difficult to get through this stuff in the dark. Finally I saw one of the big combines where I parked my truck and it was all ok from there. When I come back I'm bringing something to chop down the pesky weeds in my two shooting lanes. VIDEO: My video camera
caught some of the action and lets you see what I was up against
this afternoon. It is in the BowTube at This
Link.
