Day
3 & 4
October 14 & 15: Here are the folks that attended
the first part of the 4th Annual Bowhunting.net Bowhunt. Four of us didn't
get their pictures taken; me, because I took the picture and the other
3 had driven into town.
THE HUNTS:
Justin saw 3 does early. Later two more does were in the trees 80 yards away. At 7:45 Justin saw a big 10-point standing under a tree 60 yards away. He disappeared and when Justin saw him again he was following a doe. Both deer stopped and the doe ran off. After the doe ran away the 10-point went the other direction. Justin got a good look at his rack, it was wide with nice tines, and it had a "real big body". But it never got close enough for Justin to get a shot. Dwayne Glover saw 11 wild
hogs at 7:45, six big ones and five little ones. A big red hog with decent
tusks was the biggest and Dwayne took a broadside shot at 14 yards. The
hog spun off to the left and ran straight away from the stand. The arrow
snapped off as it went by a tree. There is good penetration and good blod
on the arrow. Here is Ricky and his hog.
Ricky Burnett had deer pick him off down wind. That was it for the yesterday morning hunt. That afternoon Ricky hunted in a Double Bull and a flock of 20 wild turkeys came in from the north. No big toms were with them. Then 3 does came out of a draw. At the same time the turkeys got spooky and flew away. The does nervously came toward the feeder but a second group of 17 turkeys came from the east. They spooked too and the deer skirted the area and went on. Later a big boar walked into view 75 yards away but it was going somewhere else. This morning Ricky hunted a ladderstand and 3 does came early. The wind was blowing hard and it blew limbs back and forth through Ricky's shooting lane. This afternoon he saw a group of 14 hogs walking 100 yards away. Later 3 big does make the 100 yard walk. George Tague saw an 9-point and does 25 yards over his right shoulder but they caught his scent. He zipped in the afternoon. This morning a black buck doe and spike came to the feeder. This afternoon George saw a doe in the distance. Another doe came later. As the light began to fade and George saw a young buck. George heard a grunt and looked. He told me, ""Here coimes Godzilla down the pipe line. He came withinh 75 yards until he went in the woods. He followed the edge of the woods for 50 yards and stopped at the edge of the trees. At last shooting light I grunted but it didn't work. He had a rack that was twice as wide as his ears and when he turned I could see all these tines sticking up, they looked 3 times the size of his head, they were up there." Kevin Smith and Jason --- arrived Sunday afternoon in time for a video hunt. They were only able to hunt that afternoon and Monday morning. Sorry, but I forgot what they saw yesterday, but this morning started out with a bog 8-point walking by after daylight. While Kevin videoed the buck he heard a snort wheeze to the left of the blind. It was a big racked 10-pointer. The 8-point laid its ears back when it saw the ten. Kevin moved his video camera to get the ten on video and make the close shot. Woops, the camera started to rewind, it was out of tape. The 10-pointer spooked at the sound and moved a short distance and stopped. Kevin rewound the tape to be able to video and turned the camera on. But the bucks moved off. Later a wild hog came up and Kevin took a 12 yard shot and hit the hog in the vitals. Roy Keefer saw an 8-point
buck and two does the last two days. He has to return home in the morning.
Both Bryant and Justin saw hogs, does and a couple of big bucks.
