#2
October 13: Bryan Askew zipped this morning. This afternoon hunted the same stand and 4 wild turkey longbeards came into his area. When they were close to his stand Bryant drew and shot the biggest gobblers. The group ran a short ways and stopped and stood around for a few minutes. When all 4 of them came back towards his stand and Bryant realized he had missed. Bryant drew on the biggest longbeard again and shot ... over it. This time they headed in the direction of a nearby creek and Bryant got another shot, but missed. Dwayne Glover saw a group of wild hogs seconds after the feeder went off. He wanted one with tusks so he singled out the one with the largest tusks. The hog was broadside as Dwayne drew and aimed for the vitals. His arrow passed through its lungs. The hog ran into the brush and Dwayne heard in the brush. Then is was quiet. When Russell and Scott arrived
they set Dixie on the trail and it went to Dwayne's hog. This hog was his
first hog with the bow.
Roy Keefer saw a doe, an 8-point buck and a wild hog this morning. He shot and killed the boar. Affter our breakfast/lunch Roy showed his video of his 2006 Brown Bear bowhunt. We all watched as a huge brown bear came over the hill and charged the hunters, who were only 30 yards away. It stopped abruptly at 15 feet and ran away. Then he shoots a brown bear and it went only 15 yards and expired, all on video. Roy edited the video himself. His wife Shelby was the video camera person and stood fast even when the bear false charged them. It was an exciting, well edited video, and Roy will have some of it on BowTube very soon. Roy wants another Aoudad and his stand is where he got his Aoudad last year. He returned for the afternoon hunt and waited for an Aoudad to show. But one didn't. Jeff Hajari saw 5 does, this morning, and two bucks. In the afternoon he hunted from a Double Bull blind and saw 3 does and Jeff took a 30 yard shot through the blind's netting at the biggest doe. The deer dissapeared in the brush. When Russell Carpenter arrived he set Dixie on the trail and they recovered the doe. David Tague saw a 10-point, two 8-points, two spikes and 3 does. David saw the 10-point's antlers at 150 yards and watched it come to 10 yards from his stand. He decided to pass on the buck. He wanted to shoot one of the does but a shot opportunity didn't come up. During the afternoon hunt he saw 6 Black Bucks. Two does also came in the area. Wade Nolan set up in a Tree Saddle. During the day he saw an even dozen does. George saw 3 deer in the morning. Later 6 jakes came through. In the afternoon he didn't see anything. Ricky Burnett heard hogs in the morning but they didn't come where he could see them. In the afternoon he zipped. Justin Gosnell had an active morning and saw several does, a groupo of wild hogs and one bomber buck that walked by 60 yards away. Three does came in his area in the afternoon and finally got within range. This hunt is Justin's first bowhunt and he saw a shot opportunity unfold. He drew and aimed at the lung area. His arrow hit on the money and the doe ran into the woods. Later Justin got down and followed a good blood trail to the doe 70 yards away. Here is Justin with his doe.
John Askew saw several deer
this morning. In the afternoon 2 does came close enough for a shot. John
took his time, he wanted a good shot. It paid off and he drew slowly and
took his shot. The doe went down in 4 feet. Later another doe walked over
and stopped to investigate the downed doe. Then it ran away and returned,
sometimes only 4 yards, sometimes as far as 50 yards. Finall it came right
to the doe and then relaxed. Here is John askew with his doe.
