MORNING: Bryant Askew
saw 10 wild hogs in a group around 7:15am. Two of the 10 hogs came in and
Bryant waited 15 minutes before he could get a clear shot. The hog was
quartering away and Bryant's arrow dropped it on the spot.
A first time bowhunter,
Justin Gosnell didn't see anything. Roy Keefer saw 5 does and 2 wild hogs
and didn't take any shots. Ricky Burnet saw 3 buck, including a nice 8-point.
He also had 6 wild hogs come through his area. Jeff watched two does but
didn't shoot. John Askew saw an 8-point and 2 does.
AFTERNOON: Ricky
Burnett saw a rattle snake curl up 3 feet from his ladder stand and shot
it with an arrow and got down and recovered the snake. A nice 8-point came
in range but Ricky passed. Later he saw "two studs" after shooting hours.
John Askew saw a flock of
wild turkeys, 2 jakes and 6 hens. They all went over near a cactus where
there was small area of tiny pea gravel. The last hen started putting and
they all putted. which usually means they are leaving. But instead all
but one came over closer to John. When John drew the hold out putted loud
and repeatedly. John locked into full draw and took the best shot. He also
saw a coyote, a group of wild hogs and two young does.
Bryant Askew saw 5 hogs but
daylight was fading away.
Wade Nolan hunted from a
Double Bull blind again. It turned out to be hog central.
They showed up 30 minutes
after Wade sat down. To minimize his visibility and scent in the blind
Wade wore XGO base layer with Scent Prevent. The OD green blended in with
the dark inside of the blind.
Four groups of wild hogs
came into the area and none picked him out or smelled him. Thirty minutes
before dark a group of 4 walked into bow range Wade shot the largest hog
and watched it crash in 60 yards.
Guide Terry Carpenter takes
a picture of Wade Nolan recovering his wild hog. Wade took the hog with
a Grim Reaper RazorTip 125 grain broadhead shot from a Bear Archery Code.
The hog ran and crashed in 60 yards.
Dwayne Glover saw two
coyotes. He drew on the first one but couldnt't get the sight on him.
Justin took a shot at a wild
hog but his nocking point had come loose and it pushed his arrow up and
he shot low. He saw 6 hogs, a doe and a Fallow doe.
George Tague and his son
David arrived this afternoon. David saw a group of hogs and took his first
shot with his new longbow and missed. A Fallow deeer walked through. George
got zipped.
