Day #6: Ricky Bags His Best Yet... Ricky Burnett arrived yesterday and hunted. He saw two bucks and a dozen plus wild hogs. The deer were younger and he didn't take a shot. The following morning he saw two does with fawns so he didn't take the shot opportunity at 12 yards. Later a lone doe came in to 6 yards and Ricky tried to draw but the deer spooked when Day 5it heard the noise the arrow made on the rest. This afternoon Ricky got on stand at 1:15, he went out early because of the moonlit night. At 4:00 he saw an 8-point, a forky and a doe walked up to 6 yards. A doe and Ricky drew on the doe, but the slight noise of whisker busquit the arrow rest alerted the deer and all 3 hurried away. By 5:00 he had seen 3 more bucks, one was a 9-point with a nice rack but he didn't get within bow range. By 6:45 he had seen 2 young does come in to bow range. But Ricky had been hearing a deer cough behind the blind. When the does got to 10 yards and were fixing to cross the woods road behind the blind. They stopped and backed up. Ricky felt like they did that because they had seen a buck. He was right. A 10-point walked past at 10 yards and at 16 yards, quartering away, Ricky drew back and got on him. Ricky heard wild hogs squeel in the woods and the deer got nervous. Ricky wanted a full broadside shot but Ricky couldn't wait when the buck started walking away. Ricky shot and saw the arrow pass completely through. He watched the buck run 50 yards and stop and rared up on its hind legs and fell over backwards, done. Ricky told me, "Being n the Double Bull blind really helped out. This was my best buck yet with a bow. This is my first time to the Wild Horse Prairrie Ranch and I will be back. This place has good bucks and lots of game. A hog hunting paradise." P.S. Ricky had his buck aged
and it was 6 1/2 years old.
