#1 - Pennington Seed
Arrival Day After a 900 plus drive mile drive I met Wade Nolan and Bruce Ryan as well as the outfitters Doug Doty and Greg Griffith with our hunting hosts Dreamwoods Adventures. It was late in the afternoon when I arrived and we drove to the Roseclaire's only local restaurant named Nanny's and and ate hamburgers, actually I had a patty melt, a real good one. I ordered raisin pie but they were out so I settled for coconut and then chocolate. They were good too. The next day Wade, myself and Bruce's wife Nancy drove to Carmii, Illinois and bought 6 baskets of groceries from their Wal-Mart. When we returned to the lodge I started setting up my satellite internet. The weather decided to interfere and let the rain storms loose. I struggled with aiming the dish for a very long time but it didn't happen. Meanwhile the Manufacturers and Writers began arriving and by bed time the following manufacturer representatives were here: John Carpenter of Pennington Seed, Ron Boyce of MDR Outdoor Group (24 Seven Scents), Scott Harper and Joe McArty of Fall Guy, Jeff DeRegmaucourt board member with Treestand Manufacturers Assn. (TMA), Eric Boerema on video with Grim Reaper Broadheads Because of delayed flights Marvin Carlson or Gold Tip and Jay Leitchy of Grim Reaper Broadheads arrived after 2:00am and joined the group. DAY 1 - Morning Hunt
4:00am felt awful early as everyone got up and prepared for the first morning's bowhunt. I wanted to get my satellite set up before I hunted so I slept in. The hunters were back between 10:00 and 10:30. After Brian Richards let off his hunters a huge buck crossed the road ahead of the truck in the pre dawn. Rob Reaser made his own ground blind and hunted from the ground. Rob had a young buck walk 5 feet from his blind. Ken Piper hunted a food plot and saw a bunch of does feeding in the food plot. Ron Boyce heard some coyotes and called them. A coyote come in his area and it sat down and started howling. Scott saw does on the ridge he hunted. Mike Hanley got a shot at a doe but missed. Other deer were seen and two more bomber bucks were seen but no one else took a shot this morning. Scott Alread of Bear Archery arrived this afternon and that completed the members of the Writers Camp and deer hunt. We ate a big lunch and got ready for the first day's meeting.
