Eastman Outdoors - Dana Brackins
Dana began by introducing the Carbon Express line of  arrows. The new Weight Forward arrow technology was developed and patented by Carbon Express and introduced in 2005 in the Maxima arrows. It distributes the weight of the arrow differently from previous arrow designs. It is caled "Wheight Forward" and is the hottest new thing in arrow design. In 2007 it will be applied to other shafts too.

Also there is new are aluminum arrows for the Archery In Schools program.

In NANO-XR High Precision carbon arrow. It is a flatter shooting down range technology. It reduces wind and side drag and was tested by Olympic teams and results were positive.  The speed was faster, wind drag was less, and accuracy was improved.

Also a Maxima 3-D Select line has been added to replace the former 3-D Select arrow line.

Dana stood on a Maxima arrow with it at a 45 degree angle and it was ok. Here is a pic of this.

The arrows have consistent spine because they are not ground. Grinding causes damage to the carbon in the arrow. They use 41 different thicknesses of carbon to give the same weight consistency, thickness and spine.

Dana also showed us Gorilla Treestands. New for 2007 is a coating that is named Silent-Tech a coating that has been engineered to quieten the parts of the treestands.

Dana showed a new lightweight Folding Climbing Stick from Gorilla.

We saw a Slow Cooker that was camouflage. The line also has sausage makers, seasonings, a cuber, turkey cooking -- anything that is needed for processing and cooking wild game.

He brought out a new turkey hunting  blind called the Undertaker.

Dana Brackins unfolds the new Undertaker ground blind from Gorilla.

The Undertaker is for shotgun hunters and will work well for turkeys, ducks and geese. It can be used by bowhunters.

Dana demonstrates how to set up with the Undertaker ground blind.

Dana showed us two more new Gorilla ground blinds. One was a blind in ASAT camouflage. The other is named the "360".

Dana shows us the new ASAT camouflage ground blind.

The 360 has a total visibility form the inside and black panels come with the blind to be put up behind the hunter and eliminate the hunter's outline.

Dana sets up the new 360 and tells us about its features.

Dana Brackins - Interview
Dana began shooting archery when he was 14. He became a Shooter for Game Tracker and shot the companies new carbon arrows. In 1997 Dana retired from General Motors to join Eastman Outdoors, the world's largest archery accessory company.

Dana became Pro Staff Director and is in charge of 200 pro staffers. Dana is a hands on type and gets out with the pro staff. He is always looking for good people people that are respected in their home areas. They will get the word out about Carbon Express arrows. Since Dana took over the Pro Staff program has become international. "Our pro staff lives and breathes archery and are loyal to me and our arrows"

Dana's specialty is the Carbon Express arrows but his position includes attending the trade shows, talks to archery dealers and introduces and educates people to Eastman's new products at events.

Carbon Express was an early pioneer for carbon arrows. Originally the arrows were made in New Mexico but when Eastman created the Buff Tuff technology they moved the arrow production to Korea where the quantity and high quality could be produced. Since changing to Korea more arrows, of higher quality are being made.

Dana said, "The plant in Korea is so clean it is unbelievable. It is as clean and as sterile as any hospital I have ever been in."

Eastman Outdoors is a parent company of Eastman Outfitters. Gorilla Treestands Inc. is a separate company. Carbon Express is a branded arrow manufactured by Eastman Outfitters. The companies share resources and therefore Dana works in close association with all of them in the development as well as marketing of new products.

Dana Brackins "lives, eats and breaths bowhunting". He started shooting competitive archery to become a better bowhunter. He has bow bagged moose, caribou, elk, american bison, javelina, whitetail, wild boar, coyote, wild turkey, black bear. His favorite is the moose in Canada. He lives on the Michigan, Indiana border.
