Fall
Guy - Part 1

Scot Harper Introduced and demonstrats
his companies Fall Guy treestand safety system.
For this meeting the group
went outside for Scott Harper's presentation. He began with some facts
about treestand accidents, the vast majority of which result in falls.
Statistics show that one out of 3 treestand hunters will have a fall at
some time in their hunting career.
The Fall Guy is a full body
harness system that is unique in the treestand hunting world. The Fall
Guy design came from automotive safety designers who are top technicians
in automotive safety. The unit uses 5000-pound webbing -- so it is more
than strong enough for the job. The buckles have silent-coated mating.
And the buckles are not plastic, they are 100 percent steel silent-coated
mating buckles rated to 2 tons!
FallGuy Vest/Harness System
uses automotive industry know-how to distribute weight to all the right
places too. So, in the event of a fall, you are held secure, upright and
comfortable until you can recover and reach safety.
In the picture on the left
Scot holds up the Fall Guy. It consists of a vest, a Tether to attach yourself
to the tree, the leg straps, and the part that attaches to the tree, which
is named a Retractor. All you have to do to put the Fall Guy on (middle
picture) is put the vest on. (Last picture) Make sure the Tether is not
inside the vest, it has to be outside to make it easy for you get ahold
of it to hook it up.

Now Scott hooks up the leg
straps. They are part ot the harness. He put on the left leg first. The
tow buckles that hook together have yellow dots on them. Just clip the
buckles together and align the dots even with each other.

Once the dots are aligned
tighten the strap around your leg.
Next Scott put the leg strap
on his right leg. Then he fastened the chest strap on the vest. The last
step was to fasten the snaps on the vest and then you are ready for the
woods. (Note that the vest actually snaps to the harness. While the vest
makes it handy and a bit quicker to put the Fall Guy on it can be unsnapped
from the harness if it is unwanted.) Also, you can put your favorite camo
jacket on over the vest if you prefer your camo on your top half.

Scott then fastened the
Retractor to the tree. This is the retractor unit.
Pull the straps around the
tree.
Slide the buckles together.
And using the now familiar
dots snap the buckles together and pull the end strap to tighten up the
strap.

Now you are ready to attach
yourself to the Retractor.
Snap the Retractor's Clip
Hook to the Tether strap on the vest. Uncle they are snapped together you
are secure.
The Retractor uses automobile
industry technology and allows for slow, even movement. But a quick jerk
on the strap and it locks down immediately. Here is Scott hooked up securely
with the Fall Guy.
To demonstrate what happens
when someone falls Scott used a ladder stand and jumped off the ladder.
But we will get to that in Part 2...
NEXT: Hooking up from
the ground before you climb the tree. And I get VIDEO when Scot jumps off
the ladder!!!
