Dec 27 - Digging In At
The Point
Today I hunted the food plot
at daybreak and returned to the Point at 11:00. Here is a picture from
the blind. I can shoot out of the left and the right sides. The mesh is
down but I cut 3-inch slits in it so the arrow can pass through it. The
two areas I can see are where the action has been.
Before getting in the blind
I checked the CamTrakker and swapped the disk out so I could check it and
see what happened since I left yesterday. There were several pictures of
does during the night and this one picture of a young buck taken this morning
before I arrived.
Not long after 1:30 a flock
of wild turkeys walked through the area but never came any closer than
40 yards. I stayed until almost dark but no deer or other wild turkeys
showed up.
As I mentioned before the
BuckEye Cam wireless infrared pictures slowed down. But there were over
300 pictures transmitted last night. So at least the deer are still in
the area. Here is a recap of the highlights of some of the many pictures.
A new buck showed up on 12/24.
He is a mature 9-point. That's him below.
Deer are always messing
with each other. In the pic below taken on 12/25 the Broken Horn Buck is
getting in the face of an 8-point.
On 12/26 the camera caught
a big doe standing erect. She is probably telling the other unseen deer
to back off and get out of her space.
More does came in the area
a few minutes later.
More aggressive one-up-man
ship between two does. Note that the smaller doe on the right is not one
bit afraid of the larger deer.
A 9-point buck comes up.
This one is good news. The
Wide-8 buck is still around. The camera caught him a few more times but
they were all looking away. This was this morning 12/27 at 2:07am.
The mature 9-point did not
show up on camera the last two nights but here he is again.
Here he is a bit closer.
You can see his rack clearly here.
And here is another angle.
The last picture was 2:47am so he either left or at least was off camera
until 3:03am.
He gives us one more look
at him at 3:10am.
The Way I Figure It
Deer activity slowed down
drastically in terms of both daily sightings and night time CamTrakker
and BuckEye Cam pictures. The night time pictures are picking up so the
deer are moving better. The pictures prove Wide-8 is still around the area,
so that's a plus. Also this new 9-point with the heavier than usual rack
(for our area) and filled out neck is a new buck we haven't seen all season.
So he is new to our mix of mature bucks.
The CamTrakker got the pic
of the Bomber 8 a couple of days ago and two days ago I saw an even bigger
bomber, and almost got a shot at him. The CamTrakker pictures show that
a few bucks, does and wild turkeys come through the area during the daytime.
But today nothing happened (12/27) at the Point -- heck, that happens,
I'll be back tomorrow.
