Dec 26 - A New Big Buck At The Point

This morning it was 22 degrees. I hunted in the blind at the Last Barn because I figured it would be warmer there. Wrong! The inconsiderate wind blew steady and freezing cold smack into the front shooting window that I have to leave open to see what's coming.

Before I went out I dug out the I.D.I. Gear parka and pants. They stop the wind and are rated to zero and I could have never sat there 3 hours without them. No deer moved in the area.

When I went to the house to eat breakfast I checked the BuckEye Cam pics and last night it took 389 infrared pics of deer. But not a single picture after daylight this morning. So I didn't miss anything because of being in the wrong spot.

After eggs and bacon time I went to the Point. I arrived at 11:30 and checked the CamTrakker before going to the blind. Several pictures were on it from 10:00 to 10:30. Here are 3 of them.

So nothing moved here either during early morning. But the above young bucks were active after 10:00. At 11:02 two wild turkey gobblers strolled by the CamTrakker and got their picture taken.

Below is a picture I took of the Double Bull Matrix ground blind. There are cedar limbs around the sides and on top.

What I couldn't tell it when I took the blind's picture but when I got to it the top and two sides were caved in. The recent high winds knocked a limb off a tree and plopped it right on the blind. After I got the limb off and fixed the outside of the blind up (not as good as I thought) I got inside and popped the blind back up.

A few hours passed and I noticed a large bodied buck across the fence in the area where the Bomber had been on the 24th. This was not the same buck but looked good in the glimpse I got of him. As he walked some limbs on top of the blind slipped off and nosily crashed to the ground. The buck stopped inside the edge of the woods and looked my way. When I took his picture and the time display read 3:44.

Then I zoomed in closer. You can see his left main beam and a couple of tines on the right side.

He stood attentively for a couple of minutes so I looked at him with my binoculars. I did not recognize this buck.

But I figured after the noise from the limbs falling he wouldn't come any closer. And that was right. He turned to his left and walked away through the trees and I got a better look at him. He was fat and big bodies. His rack was outside his ears several inches and there were at least 9 tines.

6:00 came and I eased out of the area. When I got home I checked for the wireless BuckEye Cam pics and it had not taken any pictures while I was hunting at the Point.
