December - Water Where There Isn't Any

My food plot is about as poor as a food plot as one could be and still have deer coming to it -- and what little there is of it is browsed down almost to the ground.

Early Spring was the last time it rained and everything has dried up into shades of tan or brown. Execpt for my poor but functional food plot. 

The only reason the food plot has anything growing in it is because I linked together several hoses untill they reached the plot. Initially my intention was to get water out to the water holding gizmo I had made. That's it a few steps towards us from these two deer munching on the food plot this late afternoon. 

I ran the hose to fill the water holder and soak the ground around it. Once it soaked into the ground the food plot seeds come up, but only in the immediate area. 

Two button bucks come up and one eyes the water.

A doe beats him to it but when her head is on the up bob the button steps in.

They co-exhist for a few gulps.

And she steps away for a little barely green snack.

They both leave the water and a smaller button buck and a different doe take their place. The doe really gulps the water up -- that's water coming out of it's mnouth in these two pictures.

With a river less than half a mile away and two sizeable stock ponds within 300 yards the deer regularly drink water from my small water holder.
