Making Water Where There Isn't Any

Something that has served me well over the years is making small watering places in the woods where there is no water around. This year has really been dry, the annual rainfall is way down and even though it rained a little over the weekend it's still extremely dry and dusty.

Since I've been away from the home range much of this season I haven't been able to keep a watering place going out in the woods. But once I was home from the Illinois bowhunt I got started up my watering program at an area I call the Point. I fill up two plastic 55 gallon drums and drive to the Point and dump them.

Initially I had to haul water every day. The ground was so dry it sucked up all the water. After 3 days the ground was finally wet enough for water to collect. Since then I've been taking water every 2 days.

As you can see in the picture above, this is a small watering place. And in the picture below notice the MATRIX 360 ground blind (from Double Bull Archery) at the edge of the trees.

In past years this little watering hole has been on the frequent visit list of scores of wild turkey and lots of deer. Bucks in particular have been regular visitors.

So you can see the progress of this watering project I set up a TrailTimer EZ-Cam to monitor the activity by the water hole. 

I had some stands welded for the cameras so I can put them anywhere, which in this case is next to the Matrix 360 blind at the edge of the woods. A feature I like about the EZ-Cam is the control panel inside. It tells you if the unit is ON or OFF as well as how many pictures have been taken and gives you a digital display of the dates and times. 

Once it is turned On you close up the unit and let it take pictures.

Now we are set up with water (where there isn't water). Our TrailTimer is in place to take pics of what comes to it. And our Double Bull Matrix is in the middle of the action.
