Last Week Of November
Yesterday I checked the water at the Point and noticed turkey tracks. So this morning I went there and waited in the Double Bull Matrix. A little after 10:00 five does came through the area, east to west, about 70 yards away. There is significance to this, it means that does are grouping up again instead of going it solo, which also means the peak of the rut is over in our little corner of the planet.

On a morning hunt I always wait at least half an hour after seeing some of what I'm hunting so I settled back and put my Pro Ears on and turned them up to see if I could hear any turkey talk.  I didn't hear a turkey peep but at 10:43 a flock of wild turkeys came through on a parallel course with the deer.

They moved on through without coming closer. I waited until noon and drove into town to eat a quick lunch.

I had a bunch of web work to do but I went back hunting instead. This time I went to the Hammer Hole and spent the afternoon in the tripod stand overlooking the woods road that ends where the stand is.

Tracks of both deer and wild hogs were in the road and hogs had rooted up several places in the small clearing where the road ends. So things looked promising.

I took a few pictures to pass the time.

This is the woods road as seen from the tripod. Its not much of a road anymore but it makes for easy traveling through the thick, wooded area on both sides.

There was no wind at all most of the time with an occasional light whiff of air. I like to tie flagging to a limb so I can keep track of  the wind direction. The pic below left shows you how slight the wind was blowing.

I always have trouble taking picture of things that are close, so for practice I took pictures of my arrow with several different settings and modes. Most ot the pics were too blurry. But by holding the cross hairs on the nearby limb I got the carbon express arrow and broadhead to show up.

Then I zoomed in and, after a few attempts, got only the broadhead in focus. (This photography stuff is tricky.) That's a Snyper XP3 100 gr, from Rocky Mountain Broadheads and it and the  Snyper 100 have done a great job for me so far this deer season.

This afternoon the Snyper XP3 was ready for use but I didn't see anything to use it on.

Tomorrow I'm returning to the Point.
