Dec
7 - What A Picture Day!
Morning: A dark
shadowy object moving along the far edge of my Food
Plot before dawn caught my attention and I raised my binoculars. It
was the Freak buck.
He came over close and browsed
on the nearby strip of the mixture of seeds. This food plot is relly bringing
in deer. Daylights first faint light iluminated the area slightly. Anothe
shadow came out of the woods and walked to toward the Freak.
Glassing him showed a heavy
8-pt rack and a big body. The Freak turned his head towards the 8 and stood
up tall. Apparently the 8 wasn't impressed enough so the Freak charged
him and then chased him into the woods 90 yards away.
Daylight ...

Two young bucks ambled up.
The Freak appeared in the woods on my the far left and walked to the food
plot and moved out the young bucks. Here are pictures of the Freak
Heading' e' up, Moving 'em out. Then he walked into the draw behind
them.
Back For More

Directly in front of me,
20 minutes later, a doe walked out of the trees. Inside the woods daylight
glinted off antlers and the Freak walked out behind the doe. He paused
at the edge of the food plot and two more does came up behind him. Then
he ate oats for a short while.
Next he walked toward me,
I took a good close picture and realized I heard a truck coming on the
nearby caleche road. So did the deer and they moved back to the woods.
The Other Deer ---
All the while, other deer
came from the hill and the draw and I got pictuers some of them too, doing
what deer do, interacting and eating, watching. To

Food
Plot
With the coming of the killing
frost much of the lush vegetation and huge crop of acorns on the ground
have died or gone bad. My green food plot really stands out now in Early
December. I worked with Mike Massey of PlotSpike
Seed to be sure I planted what would grow well in our area. Mike
suggested PlotSpike Forage Oats and Premium Mix. We planted the oars first
and then made 3 small sections of the Premium Mix. The Premium Mix started
growing in 3 days. The oats, however, didn't come up until we had a real
gully washer rain. Then it leaped out of the ground.
Wild Turkeys coverd the plot
from the get go. Deer came intermittently. Until now. The joint is jumping.
