Morning
Weather: 48, cloudy,
and light wind.
Most of the deer activity
was on the hill. A young buck came toward the food plot and changed course
when he smelt the goodies from the Power Wick dripper. He came over and
licked the ground where it drips and I turned my camera on and caught him
(below) as he urinates under the Power Wick. You can see the wick on the
tree (top left). I've been putting Special Golden Estrus in it and it's
doing a good job. (Power Wick and the Estrus lure are from Wildlife
Research Center.)
AFTERNOON: Think I'll move
around a little. I have a turkey tag and doe tag left so I went to the
Point and hunted in a green Double Bull Matrix. Around 4:00 I looked around
and wild turkeys were coming toward the nearby gate. You can see the old
metal gate on the right below. (I tookt these pictures through the mesh
and it gives them a yellowish tint.)

The turkeys came through
the open gate and walked along on the far side of the road.
I picked up an aluminum
slate call and made soft yelps purrs. A jake liked what he heard and walked
toward me. I slipped the camrea lens up to the Matrix's video/camera window
and got a better pictures.

Ol' jake wasn't what
I was looking for today and soon he hurried off to catch up with the other
birds. Later on 2 yearling does walked within a few yards of the blind.
Food
Plot
With
the coming of the killing frost much of the lush vegetation and huge crop
of acorns on the ground have died or gone bad. My green food plot really
stands out now in Early December. I worked with Mike Massey of PlotSpike
Seed to be sure I planted what would grow well in our area. Mike
suggested PlotSpike Forage Oats and Premium Mix. We planted the oars first
and then made 3 small sections of the Premium Mix. The Premium Mix started
growing in 3 days. The oats, however, didn't come up until we had a real
gully washer rain. Then it leaped out of the ground.
Wild Turkeys covered the
plot from the get go. Deer came intermittently. Until now. The joint is
jumping with both bucks and does. Here is the page for the Food Plot plans,
planting and progress.
