Afternoon
Mid Day Weather:
Clear, 52 and calm.
The Christmas meal with
Debbie, Breanna, JimboTX and Janet was really god. Turkey and dressing
cooked just right.
(4:02) We got out a little
later than usual and JimboTX is at the Point and I am in the food plot
blind again. I saw 7 does and JimboTX zipped at the :Point.
Morning: A White Christmas
Weather: 17 degrees,
calm & clear.
I hunted this morning. It
was a beautiful sunrise and the heavy frost turned the ground white until
the sun burnt it off. Three does came to the food plot at 7:02 and gave
me a perfect christmas card for you today.
A button buck was next. Then
a single doe. A doe came from the farm road and waited on the hill for
20 minutes. A buck would have been cool, but none showed up. Two more does
came to the plot and they just left, it's 9:29 and I better get in the
house, there's Christmas stuff to do.
Food
Plot
With
the coming of the killing frost much of the lush vegetation and huge crop
of acorns on the ground have died or gone bad. My green food plot really
stands out now in Early December. I worked with Mike Massey of PlotSpike
Seed to be sure I planted what would grow well in our area. Mike
suggested PlotSpike Forage Oats and Premium Mix. We planted the oars first
and then made 3 small sections of the Premium Mix. The Premium Mix started
growing in 3 days. The oats, however, didn't come up until we had a real
gully washer rain. Then it leaped out of the ground.
Wild Turkeys covered the
plot from the get go. Deer came intermittently. Until now. The joint is
jumping with both bucks and does. Here is the page for the Food Plot plans,
planting and progress.
