| Jan 1, 2003:
Ten minutes before sunrise I was in my blind. (Here are 3 Thumbnailed
pictures of nearby wild turkeys on their roost in the early morning light.

Half an hour later I heard the first wild turkey sound. Soon a group of gobblers flew down and assembled in the adjacent field. They were very vocal. On the far side of the field dozens of birds flew down and made a mass move to the West. (Yikes! That's the wrong direction, I'm to the East.) Soon the gobbler group began walking to the West. (Oh. Oh.) They were still gobbling so I picked up my gobbler shaker call and gobbled twice. They answered but kept walking West. I shut up and made a mental note to throw away the shaker. Fifteen minutes later I saw a red head on the opposite side of the fence near the turkey crossing. Other red heads came into view and their sharp eyes combed the area. Then they ducked under the fence and turned East -- in my direction. NEXT |
