October 12, 2000 - A Deer Hunt In Progress:
AFTERNOON

From the Mound Stand I can see most of the activity around my food plot
area. On the way to it today I noticed a fresh rub. These are soft bark
trees and the bucks love to rub them up.
The first deer I saw was this spotted fawn. There is a large concrete
water tank on the back side of my corals. The fawn was headed to it.
This fawn (that has lost its spots) was next.
Soon I caught sight of a big doe checking out the water area. My neighbor
came down the road. His old farm truck rattled the cattle guard and chugged
along. The deer started running away, there were five, the three you see
here and two that I had not seen.
This is when you know are doing good with your stand placement. When
the deer come up in front of you to check out the area ahead, instead of
stopping behind you and checking things out, you have your stand in the
right place. As you can see the Mound stand is definitely in the right
place. This doe is in the trees ahead of me, looking the situation over.
Then this doe walked up under me and moved into a shooting lane.
