DAY #5, Sunday, Ohio 2000 Deerhunt
Our groups total deer sightings today: 20 Deer, 7 bucks.

Jackson, Ohio - Bowhunting With Dennis Crabtree

Morning hunt
Dennis: No deer moved at the Blue Jay stand. When Dennis came out of the woods there was a note laying on the drivers seat of his truck. The note read, "Dennis, 8:00, buck down. Need help. Contact me." It was signed "Kevin".

Dennis walked to Scrape City.

The Duck: One buck came through Don's area.

Robert: I had all the luck this morning. Today I put my bow down and took some pictures I've been craving to take. Like, bucks and doe at the breeding scrape. And deer that reacting to my deer call. Deer like this 9-point pawing the scrape.

I made a separate page for them. Go To Pictures today at Scrape City.

Dennis and I had prearranged  to meet at my stand so I could show him exactly where some of the rutting activity was taking place. We looked at the "chase zone" and the specific route most of the bucks use when they come out of the bedding area in the planted pines. Then we went to the truck to call Kevin Dill.

Kevin Dill: Dennis phoned Kevin Dill on my cell phone he told us where to met him. Kevin is a traditional bowhunter and he had put his stick and string recurve bow and self made wooden arrows into action this morning when a big buck came by his treestand.

It was a long ways down hill. Yikes, that's uphill coming back out with his heavy buck! Eventually arrived at his treestand. The buck had ran 75 yards and Kevin led us to it. Here's a picture I took. Then we strapped the buck to the Mule and got to the task at hand, pulling it up those hills and out of the woods.

Kevin Dill shows us his big 8-point Ohio buck.
Ok Kevin, here is a wallpaper of you and your buck. 800x600 or 640x480.

When we arrived at Dennis's house Penny had a terrific meal of turkey, dressing, mashed potatoes, and the trimmings. We did put the hurt on it.

Afternoon hunt
No deer moved at the Blue Jay stand so Dennis zipped. So did the Duck and I. But it was a peaceful afternoon. As I sat on Dennis's tail gate waiting for him to come out of the woods I savored every  second of the fading light through the trees. It was truly beautiful. The perfect ending to a perfect day.
