'Scrape City' - What he did and what hapened
Deer
had not been scraping at Scrape City in early October. The bucks had worn
last years limb out and Dennis added a leafy beach limb by attaching a
High Racks Branch Bracket (sold by Cabelas) to the tree and
inserting the beach limb in it (see below).

Dennis
put Excite whitetail
doe urine with Estrus Scent from Wildlife
Research Center on the limb tips and on the trunk of the tree and
then he refreshed it every few days. Right away there were tracks under
the branch where bucks had worked the branch. A rub on the tree appeared
next. In 10 days their was a 4 foot scrape under the tree. Then a 2nd scrape
appeared 7 feet away.
Once
hit, the scrapes continued to be used daily. "This particular tree gets
an active scrape every year," Dennis says, "this year's is the best
the scrape has ever looked."
Dennis's
advice to anyone wanting to doctor or make scrapes and draw deer activity
to them is, "Read the book "Scrape
Hunting" by Wildlife Research Center. For a person that has never
done it the book is definitely a must read. Experienced hunters will learn
the correct way to hunt scrapes as well as how to make scrapes that will
become active."
