Fall Black Bear Bowhunt With Fred Lutger
Chef Klaus Bags Number 6 Mike Ditchler (Chef Klaus) pitches in with the cooking at the camp and makes terrific meals. His stuffed french toast, waffles, and omelets are the equal of even the best "ice sculpture" restaurants. He also always makes seasoning injected deep fried turkey, top cut steaks, the best mashed potatoes on the planet. Mike's cooking is a real plus for the hunt. Mike owns three busy, well known Chicago South Side restaurants. Chef Klaus's Country Cooking in Mokena and Orland Oasis in Orland Park are breakfast and lunch restaurants. Chef Klaus Die Bier Stube is a world famous steak and seafood german restaurant in Frankfort, Illinois.
On day four Mike returned to K-18. Larry Jones of Coffeen, Illinois went with him to video. At 7:00 a bear snuck in quietly from straight ahead. When it got to the bait the TrailTimer EZY-CAM went off. The bear went to it and smelled and looked it over. In a minute the camera went off again, right in the bear's face. The bear shook off the blast of light and returned to the bait pile and tore the logs away from the bait. Mike sized up the bear. Its ears were far apart and looked small. Mike decided to shoot if he got the chance. Soon the bear turned broadside and was pointed in the direction of the road. MIke started to draw ... the bear looked in his direction. Mike froze at half draw. A few seconds the bear went back to eating candy. Mike finished his draw. He put the pin right "behind the bears elbow and center of body" and pulled the release's trigger. It was a good hit. The bear ran towards the road and Mike and Larry heard the death moan. Mike signaled Larry to get down and they walked toward the bear's last sounds. It was 30 yards away ... only a few yards from the road. Mike's Comments: "This
is my 6th bear and my 6th year in a row bowhunting bear with Fred Lutger's
Wilderness Hunts from Freddie Bear Sports in Tinley Park, Illinois. I look
forward to this trip all year long."
