Fall Black Bear Bowhunt With Fred Lutger

Thank You Linda K. Burch! by Fred Lutger I haven't been in any thicker woods than in Northwestern Ontario, Canada. I am sure I have walked where few, if any, men have walked before. A few feet off the road you are completely surrounded by the thick vegetation.
I knew we would be coming out after dark so I pulled out the FireTacks Combo Kit sent to us for this hunt by WildTech Corporation. Linda K. Burch is WildTeck’s president and brainchild of FireTacks trail markers. I am not new to reflective
trail markers but this is my first time using FireTacks. I used the 4-D
FireTack on most of the trail. It is an easy to see orange color in daylight.
It is used on the trailside of trees to be seen in both directions, going
in and coming out.
I have never been as surprised
in my life as the first night I walked from my bait stand to the road.
It was pouring down rain and darker than usual as I gathered up my gear
for the walk out. I shined my light towards the trail and dots of bright
orange lit the way like a night lighted airport runway.
I am a serious outdoorsman. I want only the best gear available for the outdoors, the best rain gear, the best boots, the best flashlight. All my outdoor gear must be the best performer. At times my life depends on it. As a hunting guide and outfitter I spend more time in the woods than most people. Second best won't do. Linda K Burch, FireTacks are second to none. This
year with more hunters than usual, I put in quite a few new bear baits.
Some of the washed out roads that have been fixed by the logging companies
allowed us access to previously unhunted areas. One of the baits I hunted
this year was one of our new ones. I moved the bait location farther into
the woods after it started working. I marked the trail with a few strips
of fluorescent orange surveyors tape. This tape is easy to see in daylight.
