Donald Duck (Don Beckwith)
Day 5 - The Impossible Happens - Larry Jones from the Kirby group went with Don to video and take pictures. Larry said he would bring Don good luck because he had videoed two successful bear hunts so far on the hunt. (Larry didn't come to hunt, he came to video Kirby and fish)

Then Duck moved the Matrix blind 5 yards, where it had better cover.

As usual the bait was slammed. Don baited, arranged the scattered logs so they were not piled as high as they were yesterday, and put some fresh bacon on the top log. He and Larry got in the blind and waited.

The big bear returned again and approached the logs from behind instead of from the side. Larry took video footage and the Duck got a couple more pictures of the bear.

When the bear turned broadside Larry signaled that he was ready. The Duck drew, aimed and took his shot.

The arrow clipped a small branch and went 2 feet over the bear. Unsure of what happened, but still wary the bear waked away. Larry Jones was excited because he had now videoed 3 different hunters who got shots at a bear.

Day 4 - Logging For Bear - The following afternoon Don hunted alone from his Double Bull Matrix blind at the Horsetail site.

At 7:14 the same big bear came into the area. Don took a picture of the bear as it approached the bait logs using the same path it had the previous day.

One more picture and Don sat his camera down and picked up his BowTech Patriot.

The bear stepped behind the logs of the bait and was partially blocked by the logs. It turned around and was broadside as it stepped past the end of the logs. Don had a new QuickTune 360 arrow rest on his bow and wondered if it would make unwanted noise in the silence of the woods. He was pleased that the draw was extremely quiet. He aimed behind the left front leg and took his shot -- and heard a solid crack. The bear took off.

When Don did not hear a death moan he waited an hour before getting out of the blind. To his disappointment the broadhead was buried in the end of a log.

On The Way - The Duck (Donald Duck) left home August 2 and met Fred Lutger in Chicago. They loaded up the camp gear and went to Chef Klause's Frankfort restaurant for dinner.

Fred and Don using Rope Ratchets to tie down their camp supplies for the bear hunt.

In the morning they began the drive to International Falls and onward to the bear champ in Ontario, Canada, where they had to prepare for Fred Lutger's Wilderness Hunts 2005 bear hunt.

Don and Fred set up and organized the camp and began working the established (already active) bait sites. They also found several new promising places and set the areas up for bowhunting and started baits.

The bear hunt began on August 15. For 3 days Don videoed for Chef Klaus. Meanwhile Don set up a Double Bull Matrix at the Horsetail stand. Mike shot his bear and accompanied Don the next day to video. It was raining and nothing happened.

A Big Bear - The next day they saw a large bear in the woods. When it came within range Don got two pictures with his camera.

But the bear did not give Don an unobstructed shot opportunity.
