WATCHING THE BAIT
24 HOURS A DAY - When Are The Bears Coming?
With TrailTimer Game
Cameras & Monitors
Fred already has several
TrailTimer cameras and counters out at bait sites. We use two kinds, the
EZ CAM and the Plus 500 event monitor. The EZ CAM (below) takes pictures
and records time and date for up to 500 events. We set the cameras four
feet from the ground and point them down. Fred states, "We already have
lots of pictures, every camera is taking pictures and we are getting 3
rolls developed in town on Monday. We move the cameras every 2 to 3 days
so we can see the bears that are coming to each bait site."

The Plus 500 event monitor
(below) records time and date for up to 500 events. This lets us know what
time bears have visited the area. Fred reports, "It surprises me the number
of times bears visit a bait during daylight hours. This usually indicates
there are multiple bears on a bait. TrailTimer's multiple event monitor
shows us this."

INFORMATION GATHERED
SO
FAR: An even
dozen areas are being monitored. Seeing the dates and times the monitor
was triggered is easy, you simply scroll through them. All monitors have
recorded several dozen events, so there is above average bear activity
and it's everywhere. The times of the visits was a surprise, too. Bears
are notorious for their late visits, but this year the monitors are regularly
recording events in the morning and afternoon as well. Basically, on several
baits a hunter could see a bear at any time of the day.

Fred gets the TrailTimers
ready.
I brought along two each
TrailTimer
EZ Cam game cameras and 500 Event monitors and Fred set them up. He already
has 8 other TrailTimers set out.
Our
Mission: A Bear On The Ground
Figuring Out Where to Hunt

Fred & I began our hunts
for bears on the ground by evaluating pictures from our TrailTimer game
cameras to see where the bear are right now. Here
are the first pics in.
More Bear Pictures -- from the Caution
stand
We set a TrailTimer behind
the bait logs so it faces our Double Bull blind 12 yards away. Fred identified
5 different bears from these photos. Two are big bears. To
The Pics.
Every Picture Tells A Story, Don't
It ...
We analyze the TrailTimer
pics from 3 different bear stand sites - and move off one bait and hang
in on two. Caution
Pics: one glance and you see a couple of sagging pot bellies
and thick necks. Hose
Bait Pics: we have a blondie, and more, but decide to move, here's
why. K18 Pics:
the Chef was going to move but now he's staying.
Fred
Lutger's Hunt - It All Comes Together

On Fred's last hunt we set
up two TrailTimer EZ-Cam's, one directly behind the bait and one off to
the side. We were hoping for some pictures with a different perspective
than me taking pics through the window of the Double Bull blind.
We got it, big time.
I don't want to ruin the
surprise, but what the TrailTimer added to the story is unique, this has
never been done before. To Fred's Hunt
