EVALUATIONS
The bow I used on the bear 2004 hunt, the BowTech Patriot VFT is the fastest bow I've ever shot. I took the bow to BowTech specialists Lake Country Archery in Yantus, TX and Richard fine tuned it to get the most out of the bow. When he was done, at 64 pounds the bow rocketed my hunting arrows out at 278 fps. With perfect bullet hole paper tears too. And the Patriot socked my
carbon C2 arrow totally through the stout, 6-foot 8-inch 2004
bear I harvested this year. This bow is quiet to draw, no faint squeaks
or slight creaks. It shoots quiet too. Coming to full draw is smooth and
effortless. The wood handle is comfortable and it doesn't get cold when
the temperature drops. BowTech's slogan reads, "taking the arch out of
archery." They mean it. (Web Site: BowTech,

The EZ-Fletch comes in separate
models for aluminum and carbon arrows. (That's the carbon model above.)
You can fletch at different helical angles but I prefer straight fletch.
Sometimes I hear that the helical is better for broadheads, but for some
unknown reason it bugs me to see my arrow turn in flight. And since side
by side tests, helical against straight, on the same shaft, didn't make
any difference as far as I can tell, I shoot the straight. (Web Site:

Secondly, The hole size, shape and angle is absolutely perfect. The size of the hole is just right, big enough for bowhunting, meaning it lets all possible available light in. Also the hole (aperture) is drilled at an angle that is slightly different than any peep I've used before, this angle makes the peep have a nice, crisp, perfectly round aiming hole to see through. The web site describes the Horizon Blue color as "Optically Eutropic" which means "it allows the pupil to adjust more rapidly than standard Peeps in those critical seconds between the time the Peep is drawn to the eye, the target is acquired and the arrow released." Lots of products claim to
be "something new", and some are, and some are not. But the Venom peep
sight definitely is a positive step in a new direction. (Web Site: VENOM
