of the Bear Hunt | Getting The Gear Ready |
At 1:40 he saw bear legs walking on the hill above the bait logs. He didn't see the bear again. Without warning, at 8:20 a bear stepped out of the thick woods to the left of the narrow clearing. The bear looked up the hill and then looked at the blind, back and forth several times, in a casual manner. Every time he looked uphill Joe moved moved into shooting position and drew, aimed and shot. The bear jumped and made a loud roar and bit at his side, even though the arrow had passed through him. Then he raced up the hill, crashing loudly. The loud sound stopped abruptly. Joe estimated it to be 50 yards. Joe stuck his head out of the blind to listen for a death moan. The wind was loud and he couldn't hear anything else. He got his gear together and got out of the blind and found his arrow, it was covered with blood. Then the excitement hit Joe, he started shaking. He picked up everything and walked to the road and anxiously waited for his friend Jeff Cook to pick him up. Joe is a veteran whitetail bowhunter and this is Joe's first bear hunt. His advice to new bear hunters is, "Don't think about it, just do it." Joe, , when you get back
