Kirk Neetz
On Kirk's arrival day Fred took him to a stand area. The bait was ripped apart. Kirk left it as is, and figuring the bear was close by, he quietly slipped into the treestand. Forty-five minutes later a bear went to the  bait. It grabbed a bag o bait and ran into the woods. The bear came, grabbed some bait and went back to the woods 3 more times -- . The bear was large, the space between his ears was wide, and he threw the logs around like they were lincoln logs. But it did not present a good shot angle. The 4th time the bear came in it walked around the area instead of going directly to the bait -- and turned broadside. Kirk put the "sight pin on his ribs and let him have it." The bear ran into the woods. In moments Kirk heard a wheeze. The blood trail played out in 30 yards. Kirk returned to camp and in the morning he and Fred Lutger returned to the site and Fred tracked the bear. It was only 30 yards further. Kirk returned to camp with the bear, we took photos, and he skinned the bear himself.

Advice to new bear hunters: "Be careful of scent. The bear scent checked the area over and over. I wore a Scent Loc suit and had it on. Secondly, screen your outline. I turned my stand sideways in the tree and put cedar branches in the mesh platform of my treestand. That gave me a nice screen."

This was Kirk's first bear. "Bear hunting is a lot of fun. It's fun baiting, setting up the stands, and seeing the bear come out of no where. I am looking forward to eating bear meat."
