Chris Fulton
"The bear appeared on the same trail I was walking on!"
At 5:00 Chris walked into his stand. Twenty yards from the bait something ran and make a half circle around him. It made a blowing sound and Chris realized it was a bear -- then it appeared on the same trail Chirs was on ... and it walked straight toward Chirs. Chris knelt down. The bear looked at Chris and retreated quickly. It returned shortly and Chris drew. The bear looked at Chris again and trotted off. The bear returned in 5 minutes. It went to the bait logs and turned broadside. (The bait had already been hit.) Chris drew. The bear turned his head and looked right at Chris. The arrow passed through the bear. The bear ran nosily, crashed, and roared loudly. Only 10 minutes had passed.

Chris knocked another arrow, he was unsure of the hit, and he waited quietly and alertly for an hour. Then he walked to his arrow. It was entirely covered with bright red blood. Chris felt better, now he knew he had a good hit. He re-baited, reset the Trailtimer and waited to be picked up. They found the bear 25 yards from the bait in the dense brush.

This is Chris's first bear. He told ne, "I've never seen a bear before and when it was eye to eye with me, made eye contact with me, it was a true adrenaline rush. My heart was pumping, it was cool. I wasn't scared when I saw the bear, I was more afraid that it would run off and I'd never see it again than I was of it. I wanted the bear. I was tickled and relieved when I picked up my arrow and saw the blood on the shaft, then I knew the bear was down and I had just killed a bear in Canada." Chris added, "I wish my 5 year old son was with me when we recovered the bear.."

Chris's advice for new bear hunters: "Be as quiet as you can, don't rush your shot, and wait for a broadside shot. If you don't see a bear one day don't be discouraged."
