2006 Bowhunt For Florida Alligator

When the phone rang and and David Mills asked me if I wanted to bowhunt alligator in Florida I thought about all the work I had on the burner and respectfully declined. The instant I hung up I realized I was making a mistake and I called him right back. Based on past experience the work would still be there when I got back.

The end result was that myself and Kevin Sullivan of Innerloc Broadheads made arrangements to meet David Mills in south Florida and test out Innerloc's new Gator Grapple points and various Innerloc Bowfishing Arrows. 

We were back on the road at 10:00am and drove to David Mills home near Zolfo Springs, Florida at 5:30 pm. David told us we were starting a day early, we were going gator hunting tonight. 

My bowfishing gear from AMS Bowfishing came the day before I left home so it still needed to be rigged up. Kevin Sullivan got right to it and set up my AMS Slotted Retriever on my BowTech Liberty.

Once the AMS Slotted Retriever was on the bow and in position Kevin added 640 pound line and reeled it up into the Slotted Retriever. The design of this reel allows the line to feed out without snagging or backlashing. 

Then he added the AMS yellow float. When the line finishing running out of the reel it takes the Float with it. The yellow float is the largest float AMS Bowfishing offers.

Gator Trapper David Mills told us we had a one time opportunity to gator hunt today with two other Gator Trappers; Mike Edwards and Brad Gibson on Lake Okachobee and we arrived early enough to do it. We met Mike and Brad in Okachobee, Florida and Kevin and I purchased our Trapping Agent's License which enables us to assist licensed Gator Trappers in taking the gaters they are issued tags for.

At the lake Brad Gibson watches as Kevin Sullivan rigs his Innerloc Gator Grappler head with his heavy duty Hybred-Max fish arrows and the AMS 640 pound test line. Kevin designed the bowfishing equipment for Innerloc. 

Brad and Mike put the Airb\oat in the water and our hunt begins.
