View From Behind the String
by Art Champoux
Compounds, longbows and recurves -- no matter what our persuasion, we are all bowhunters. I respect every one's choice of what they prefer to shoot and shoot each form of archery myself.
To each of you out there this column is done in such a way as not to decide what is better or wrong or right but to look at bowhunters as human beings and possibly even laugh at our selves from time to time.  It is in this light that I introduce myself to you.

My perspective might be different than yours or others but then again some times we see the same thing but at different angles. Over the course of fifty years of shooting the bow and arrow I have been on both sides of the counter, as a shooter, a hunter, a dealer and as a man who loves the sport and has fought for our right to pursue game with the bow and arrow.

With this in mind, from time to time you will be receiving my views on what we are doing and where we are going. Let us have some fun along the way and not take our selves too seriously. As you will see in my columns I am not perfect nor am I not subject to criticism. What I am is simply dedicated to archery in all forms. I enjoy the camaraderie and the feeling of being a part of the sport.

So until you see my column again may all your shafts hit the bull and your misses be few. This is my view from behind the string.

Traditional Shooting 101
With a traditional bow you can get the handle and the arrow close to each other. The compound is different. Here's how to shoot both.
