    Hunting At Home
Oct 31 - The Eight Returns

On the last day of the bow only season I am the only hunter and the hunt heats up big time. And some of the details I always attend to before I leave for the stand pay off. To The Hunt & Pics

Oct 30 - Setting Up Secret Spot #4

The TrailTimer pictures of Secret Spot #4 helped me find a hidden corridor deer are using. This is a half mile long, thick, narrow strip of woods bordered by a river on one side and a field on the other. To set this area up I picked out a tree and got to work. To Secret Spot #4

    Oct 29: Hanging In
I spent most of the entire afternoon in the Double Bull and saw a bunch of does and a new 8-point. I dumbed up and left the compact flash card for my camera at home so I couldn't get pictures. But it was a cool day in the deer woods.

    Oct 28: The Right Move

I moved the Double Bull closer to yesterday's deer activity and returned at 4:45. In 15 minutes the hunt was on. To Pics & Hunt...

    Oct 27: Changing Places
I want to move further into the woods from the Hammer Hole hoping to intercept deer that I am not seeing. The Double Bull blind is ideal for this cedar area so I set one up on the afternoon hunt. The deer I saw were not on trails close to me. Tomorrow I will move again.

Oct 26: Hunting A Core Rut Area
I check the core rut area I call December Tree. There were problems and here is how I fixed em', complete with pictures. Then I hunted my new set up and got into some rut action. To Hunt...

Oct 24: Look At That Butt!
For my morning hunt I went to the Hammer Hole. This is a thick area and there are no trees large enough for a treestand, but this is a good spot, so I have three tripod stands set up here. To The Hunt...

CATCHING UP: After the very successful Bowhunting.net Deerhunt with Billy Don Van Cleave I returned home and had a lot of web work to do but still resumed the hunt.

    OCT 20-23:
John Askew came down with his son Bryant and daughter Emily. Bryant, who graduated from high school last year, has hunted on our lease before and has taken a few does as well as wild hogs with his bow. To Bryant's Hunt...

    Bowhunting With Billy Don
    the 1st Bowhunting.Net Deerhunt
To: Days 1-5 and Days 6-10

    Roy Keefer
Roy had videoed several big bucks on the first 3 days of his hunt.
But on the morning of his last hunt he was definitely in the shooting mode when a long tined 10-point came in bow range. To Roy's Hunt...

    Brooks Johnson
Brooks returned to his Double Bull blind on the Pipeline an hour before daylight. Keith Beam was on video. At good enough light to video Brooks rattled briefly. Brooks sat the horns down and immediately Keith saw a buck 150 yards away. It came slowly and stopped 20 yards away. So far there was no chance for a shot. To Brook's Hunt...

Chef Klaus & The Black Hawaiian
When a group of rams walked under my treestand at #16 I told Chef Klaus (Mike Ditchler) about it. After lunch we went looking for them. When we located the rams the Chef said, "I want the black one."
There was only one black ram in this group and things looked pretty easy until ... well, Here Is The Hunt...

    Day 8
    Afternoon Hunt
"Beamer" Mock Scrapes Up A Buck
    Keith Beam
Keith and the Duck were at it again. They moved the Double Bull blind to a new location and brushed it in. Then Keith made a mock scrape under a limb 20 yards away, using the MOON FIRE deer lure (from Wild Life Research). Keith hooked a Super Wick on a limb above the scrape. Two hours later it brought them a buck. To Keith's Hunt...

    Morning Hunt
Keith Beam - The Duck and Keith set up a Double Bull blind at the Lookout. The first deer were there before the Duck had the video camera going. Plus, here are the hunts of Brooks Johnson and Chef Klaus. To Day 8...

    Day 7

    Day 6
Rick Philippi and John Askew join the Bowhunting.net deer hunt.
Rick went to my favorite stand, #16. John gets a turn at bat with a big 10 point.
And I get to meet the buck in this picture. To The Hunt...

    The Duck's Wild Hog Buck
There's more on the blood trail than the Duck!

From his treestand the Duck saw "a whole slew pot of hogs." A large boar stopped at the blood trail, dropped its nose and sniffed his way along the blood trail -- toward the deer. Other hogs noticed him and followed. The Duck climbed down and went after his buck. To The Hunt...

    DAY 5: Wayne's Day
A Buck A Day Keeps Billy Don Happy
Wayne Dobson: Wayne hunted View Point and was "covered up with bucks." To Wayne's Hunt.
Tony Dukes returned to #23. But, today, the deer didn't. George Tague continued his quest for wild turkey. Robert Hoague: I set up a Double Bull blind at a place on the Pipe LIne and saw some deer and a huge wild boar gave me the last minute slip. To Day 5 Hunt...

    DAY 4: George's Day ... All Day

Pennsylvania bowhunter George Tague does it right on his second day of the hunt. To Hunt...
Plus, Wayne Dobson gets in the middle of big action too. Tony Dukes sees more big bucks. And George Tague gets with it again. Day 4 ...

    Day 3 - Dave's Day
    AFTERNOON - Wild Hogs

Wayne Dobson, Tyge Floyd and Dave Cole got into the wild hogs. Another big buck visits Tony Dukes. More...

Dave Cole & Billy Don Van Cleave
Dave Cole was ready to shoot one of the 8-points by his stand. He heard deer hooves clicking in the rocks of the near by creek bottom. Dave looked and saw the horns of an even bigger buck. He changed his plans. To Dave's Hunt
Meanwhile, there was no lack of action by the other 4 bowhunters. To Day 2 Hunt...

Day 2 - The Bucks Start Moving
To the hunt logs for Day #2 as the bucks get moving and the hunting action picks up for everyone. To The Day 3 Hunts...

First Day - Never Give Up

Daylight was coming on at #16. A nice buck was 80 yards away. A second buck joined him.

They locked horns and a heated fight was on. There was no way to know but I was minutes away from a magic day in Billy Don's woods. To my hunt...

Day #1 - Dave Cole (owner of BowFit archery exerciser) hunted #17 and saw 2 does and a fawn and lots of wild hogs.
The Duck had activity also, he saw 2 does, 2 fawns, several wild hogs and 3 bucks. This is a picture of one.

    Making Cool Arrows Fast

I like to make arrows up 4 or 6 at a time so yesterday I fixed up the arrows I want to use at the hunt at Wild Horse Prairie Ranch. It was easy and only took 15 minutes, here's how I did it so fast. Making Cool Arrows Fast...

    OCT 6 - Wednesday - Bowhunting.net Hunt
The first every Bowhunting.net Deer Hunt begins Friday. The Duck met the landowner Billy Don Van Cleave and they are at Sam's buying the food for the 10 day hunt. I've  got a million things to do to be ready, so we didn't hunt today. However, Rick Philippi came down to hunt and he is at the Slew Hole this afternoon.

    OCT 5 - Tuesday
It's raining. It's not raining. All day long.

    OCT 4
     Monday Afternoon
At 3:30 the cloudy sky opened up and it rained big time. The Duck and I waited an hour for it to let up. It didn't. So we drove to town and ate hot fudge sundaes at Dairy Queen. On the way back, half an hour before dark, the rain stopped and deer were all over as we drove back to camp.
Monday Morning - I saw the same two bucks. No does were around so they were buddys again. The Duck zipped at the Dry Tank. We are the only two hunting now.

    OCT 3 - Sunday
Afternoon Hunt - Buddy Group Break Down
John saw hogs, Robbie saw wild turkeys, the Duck saw 2 does. I had all the luck watching my food plot area. To The Hunt & Pics...

Morning Hunt - First deer of the season
Robbie B hunted the the entrance of the Canyon. and zipped.  John A was at his Pond stand and  saw 1 doe and more wild turkeys. Mosquitoes were bad there and they ate him up. I zipped.

The Duck hunted the Mudslide stand, again. Don saw the longhead doe that had run the deer off yesterday, (as well as in year's past). But today it came closer. MORE Today's Hunt & Pics..

OCT 2 - A little wild turkey and deer action on the opener. To The Opening Day's Hunt.
