(May 14 at the Hammer Hole) No hogs, but something just as good.
Motion in the brush caught my eye. I recognized the reddish color of it's Spring coat and carefully reached for my camera and got it in position. A buck with starter antlers stepped from behind a cedar. He was very co-operative and gave me several close pics. A few minutes later  2nd buck sporting his starter antlers came down the trail. A 3rd buck came later but he crossed to quickly for a picture. Here is wallpaper of the larger of the two bucks, you can see his new antlers real well. (1024x768) (800x600) (640x480)
What Do Rabbits Eat ... And What Eats Them?

The "Hammer Hole" is well stocked with cottontail rabbits. They always seem to be traveling through, eating, or messing around with other rabbits. Or ducking predators.

Doug Sr. Tricks The "Hang Up "Gobblers
On day #2 Doug Crabtree Sr. worked on a group of gobblers for 3 hours but they would not come within bow range. Today he pulls a couple of tricks out of his well worn camo hat and brings those "Hang Up" gobblers in. Plus, a little bad luck for the hunter he was guiding turns into more than a little good luck for him.

May Was Another Active Month On Bowhunting.net
FIND THE DEER #15:
It is early Spring and you are, of course, scouting for deer sign. Driving along, you notice that some of the deer already have their reddish Spring coats but some don't. You begin by walking a fence line, looking for cross trails. A hundred yards further you find one, it is full of fresh tracks that lead to a low spot under the fence. You notice deer hair clinging to the barbs of the lowest strand of wire.
An interesting part about this time of year is that the deer are a little more relaxed and not as spooky -- as in "running when they see you". Today's one of those days. How many deer are looking at you while you are checking out the cross trail?
